Twitter Townhall with DeSantis

On Wednesday, Ron DeSantis made a big announcement on Twitter Spaces, a new audio platform that is similar to Clubhouse. The announcement got off to a rocky start as Elon Musk struggled to get the platform to work. Elon has high hopes for Twitter Spaces, hoping it will become the world's Townhall. Twitter has certainly transformed itself into a hub for news, and this new platform is a great way for people to ask questions of potential candidates like DeSantis.

During the Twitter discussion, DeSantis talked about his stance on keeping Florida open during lockdowns, not issuing mask fines, and how the state's booming economy is a result of these policies. However, there were some issues that were not brought up during the discussion, which I disagreed with. The purpose of the Twitter Spaces interview was to allow people to ask questions of the possible candidate. While some of DeSantis' positions, such as keeping Florida open during lockdowns and not imposing mask fines, were popular with the audience, there were also some controversial issues that were not addressed

On a funny note, Donald Trump replied to the announcement on his platform Truth Social with a hilarious AI-voiced meme featuring Elon, DeSantis, George Soros, and Satan.

Elon claimed that everything was spontaneous and unscripted, but I feel that the people who were chosen to ask DeSantis questions gave him softball questions. One of the biggest complaints about the event was that it was not video-streamed, which made it feel like an old-time radio show. I am excited to see more potential presidential candidates speak on Twitter Spaces, but I hope that future events will include more video and audio and be more diverse in their questioning of candidates.
